Day 16: Thankfulness

“Father God, I want to take time today to thank you for who you are and all you’ve done for me. Today is Thanksgiving and is usually a good reminder that we need to be thankful, but I pray that I wouldn’t wait until Thanksgiving every year to thank you. I pray that I would maintain an attitude and spirit of thankfulness and gratitude, knowing that without you I am nothing. So, I want to thank you now for the blessings you’ve poured out on me (specifically name each blessing God has given you and prayer He has answered). I am undeserving of all of it. Keep humility firmly planted in my heart and mind at all times. Father, you instruct us in your Word to not just thank you for the good things, but for the bad as well. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says we are to give thanks in all circumstances. I choose to thank you for even the hard and sorrowful times. You promised in your Word to use everything for my good and for your glory (Romans 8:28). This doesn’t mean everything in my life is good, but that you will take all of it - the good, the bad and the ugly - and work it together for good for those who love you and are called according to your purpose. I’ve already seen you take the bad and use it for my good by drawing me closer to you. It is in these times of sorrow that I cling to you. I trust you, Lord, and I trust that you are a promise-keeper. Thank you, Father, for your abundant grace, mercy, love and blessings. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
