In the morning (when I wake up before my early rising children) I like to wake them up with the song, “Rise and shine and give God the glory glory, Rise and shine and give God the glory glory, rise and shine and give God the glory glory, Children of the Lord.” No I do not have a spectacular Whitney Houston voice and most days while singing in the car they tell me not so loud. Children... they keep it real! But in the morning if I forget to sing the song, like I did this morning, they let me know! They love to hear it!
It’s something small and in my mind seemed somewhat insignificant, but for them I think it’s a comfort. Something familiar they recognize and can identify with. My prayer is as they grow they also grow in the Lord and will cling to Him and find comfort in His words, That every morning when they rise they remember to give Him all the glory and start each day knowing it is His. I pray they will choose to serve Him.
“You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.” (Deuteronomy 13:4)
As of late I have been challenged with this: challenged to relinquish control of what I want my day to look like and give it to Him. I have recently heard, “Go deeper in spiritual maturity through surrender.” This word from the Lord is a tough one for me but one I know I desperately need to hear it.
The words of this song have been ones I keep running through my head over and over...
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me...
Together, let’s go deeper, let’s reach the end of ourselves and cling to him. Let’s be made stronger in the presence of Jesus, stronger in our faith knowing we don’t have control and being OK with that. And, finally, let’s trust without borders!
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Romans 8:14-17)
